Biodiesel was prepared by catalytic methyl esterification under higher pressure and higher temperature from acidic soybean oil with high content of free fatty acids. Optimal conditions for methyl esterification were studied and verified by methyl esterification of acidic soybean oil, acidic rapeseed oil, and waste oil. The content of total fatty acid methyl esters and yield of biodiesel was 95% and 94%, respectively, under the conditions of mass ratio of methanol to oil 1:1.25, catalyst NaA/MgR 1% by weight to oil, pressure 3.0MPa, reaction temperature 188℃, reaction time 120 min. After refination the biodiesel products quality can meet ASTM 6751-03a specification. This technology can be used for industrialization.

    2007, 41 (6):  29-31.
    Abstract ( 713 )   PDF (484KB) ( 847 )   Save
The straw board which is a renewable resource is used as sound absorbing material to substitute for automobile foam plastics. Effect of straw length, board density and hot pressing time on sound absorption property of straw board was studied through L9(34) orthogonal test. The density is the main factor to affect sound absorption coefficient. The average sound absorption coefficient of straw board is bigger than that of foam plastics. When replacing foam plastics of XMQ 6608 bus engine cover with straw board, the noise reduction effect of new cover is superior to that of original cover. The test result proved that the straw board could be used as automobile sound absorbing material.

Biomass is the sole renewable carbon resource that can be transferred into gas, liquid and solid fuels as well as other chemicals. As the fossil energy will be exhaustive, humans pay more attention to the problems of global environment. Many scholars and researchers in the world have been focusing on the research and development of biomass energy to substitute for fossil energy. The clean and high quality gas, liquid or solid fuels converted from renewable biomass resources by different ways were described in the course series. Here we mainly introduce the biomass pyrolysis and gasification, the research and application nowadays in facets of the civil gas supply, heating and power generation, synthetic liquid fuel and hydrogen production, etc. We also introduce the major research directions in biomass gasification in our country.

    2007, 41 (6):  22-24.
    Abstract ( 654 )   PDF (677KB) ( 819 )   Save
Swelling degree of three natural hydrophilic polymer gels including chitosan, xanthan gum and sodium alginate in bamboo vinegar was determined. Effects of temperature and pH value on their swelling degree and swelling rate were discussed. The results showed that the swelling degree and swelling rate increased with the rising of temperature at the range of 20-40℃. Chitosan and xanthan gum had the similar swelling rate in different bamboo vinegar solutions. Xanthan gum was more stable than chitosan.

With more than 700 kt/a of output, rosin is the most important product of forest chemicals in our country, which takes the first place in the world. Due to fused polycyclic skeleton in molecular structure, rosin has good rigidity and heat resistance. Introduction of rosin to polyols could improve the rigidity, gloss and heat resistance of the polyols and the derived polyurethane. In this paper, the synthesis and application of rosin-based polyols are summarized.

    2007, 41 (6):  42-46.
    Abstract ( 642 )   PDF (888KB) ( 1034 )   Save
Biodiesel is a kind of clean and renewable fuels.More and more countries are studying and using biodiesel as alternative fuels. Biodiesel is easy to crystallize under low-temperature because of high solidification point (SP) and high cold filter plugging point (CFPP). Crystallization could plug the pipeline and the filter net of the engine to make it out of work. It becomes an important task of the biodiesel research to how to reduce the SP and the CFPP of the biodiesel. The researches on improving the low-temperature fluidity of the biodiesel at home and abroad, the studying on pour point depressant, and the mechanism of pour point depression are reviewed in this paper.

    Abstract ( 890 )   PDF (622KB) ( 963 )   Save
The extraction and isolation conditions of essential oil were studied using the flower of Chrysanthemum indicum Lamb as the starting material with supercritical CO2 process. Influences of extraction temperature, extraction pressure, and extraction time on the content of essential oil were investigated, and suitable conditions were determined based on the single-factor tests. They were as follows: extraction temperature 35℃, separation temperature 30℃, extraction time 90 min, extraction pressure 25 MPa and CO2 flow 30 kg/h. The yield of essentical oil was 9.7% under above conditions. Using GC-MS analysis, 43 compounds were identified. They were mainly terpen compounds and their oxides, hydrocarbon compounds, ester compounds and so on.

Study on the Extraction Technology of Procyanidins from Caribbean Pine Bark
    DU Xue-yu;ZHANG Zheng-ge;WANG Fei
    2007, 41 (6):  6-10.
    Abstract ( 730 )   PDF (777KB) ( 867 )   Save
The method and technological conditions for extraction of extract procyanidins from Caribbean pine bark were systema-tically investigated. Three different extraction methods, including conventional solvent extraction, ultrasonic wave extraction and microwave-assisted extraction were compared. The results indicated that the extraction yield of procyanidins was highest when 70% ethanol was used as solvent. Ultrasonic wave extraction and microwave-assisted extraction are better among the three extraction methods. Ultrasonic wave extraction can get a high yield in a short-time extraction process. However in microwave-assisted extraction the solvent extraction time after the effect of microwave should be prolonged to obtain a high extraction yield. For ultrasonic wave extraction, the optimum conditions were as follows: extraction temperature 50℃, ultrasonic wave power 100 W, the ratio of raw materials to ethanol 1:11, and extraction time 1.5 h. The optimum conditions of microwave-assisted extraction were microwave power 200 W, radiation time with microwave 30 s, the ratio of solid to liquid 1:11, extraction temperature 50℃, and extraction time 6 h. As the results, the yields of procyanidins from Caribbean pine bark were 7.47% and 7.69% respectively under above conditions.
