Abstract: Heavy turpentine is a by-product in the production of rosin and turpentine from Pinus massoniana, which mainly contains longifolene and β-caryophyllene. The separation of heavy turpentine, as well as the research progress of longifolene and β-caryophyllene in heavy turpentine were reviewed. For longifolene, the research situation of its isomerization and aromatization was mainly introduced. For β-caryophyllene, the information of its biological activity and the research and utilization of its derivative, caryophyllenol, were introduced.

Key words: longifolene, β-caryophyllene, turpentine of Pinus massoniana, isolongifolene
