Abstract: The desert area occupied one third of Chinese land. On the one hand, there is atrocious environment and poor economy in the desert area; on the other hand, there are abundance utilizable biomass resources because of the rigor natural selection. Therefore, utilization of the renewable resources of desert area with modern technology plays an important role in the exploitation and continuable development of the west China. The utilization of herbage, shrub and alga growing upon desert area was summarized.
