Abstract: The domestic and abroad research progress on biomass thermo-chemical conversion methodology was reviewed. An overview about present state of refining techniques in bio-oil was given. The biomass liquefaction technologies, i.e., liquefaction in phenol, liquefaction by polyols, fischer-tropsch synthesis catalytic hydrogenation, catalytic cracking, catalytic esterification etc. were presented. Finally, the existing problems were summarized and the future development was prospected.

Key words: biomass, liquefaction, refining
