Abstract: HBS lignin-pentaerythritol modified rosin resins were successfully synthesized from rosin, pentaerythritol and HBS lignin. These resins were characterized by softening point, acid value, viscosity, DSC-TGA, and compared with rosin. The results showed that HBS lignin could partially subsititute pentaerythritol to modity rosin resin. The properties of rosin resin, such as softening point, acid value, viscosity, and heat resistance, were improved by HBS lignin-pentaerythritol modification. The results showed that the modification of HBS lignin has better effect on the properties of modified rosin than that of lignin sulfonate.

Key words: HBS lignin, pentaerythritol, modified rosin resin
