Abstract: The hydrolysis process of banana peel was preliminarily studied. Two different ways such as hydrolysis by sulfuric acid and hydrolysis by enzyme were analyzed. The optimal reaction conditions were: hydrolysis by sulfuric acid at 110℃, 1% concentration and 2 h, the total reducing sugar yield was about 24%; hydrolysis by enzyme at pH value 4.8, 45℃, 4% substrate concentration and 1% enzyme concentration, for 24 h after 48 h soaking in 3% dilute ammonia, the total reducing sugar yield was about 19%.

Key words: banana peel, hydrolysis, cellulose
