Abstract: The adsorption behavior of the bamboo-charcoal for Zn2+ was studied in an aqueous solution. The effects of contact time, pH, mass of absorbent, adsorption temperature, and initial concentration of Zn2+ on absorption were determined. Results showed that bamboo-charcoal could effectively remove Zn2+ from the aqueous solution with high adsorption ability at pH 3.2~6.2, in which the optimum is pH 5.3 in HAc-NaAc medium. Because adsorption decreased with increase in adsorption temperatures, it means that the sorption process is an exothermic process, which the adsorption behavior of the bamboo-carbon for Zn2+ obeys the Freundlich isotherm model. After adsorption the bamboo-charcoal can be regenerated quantificationally with H2O and microwave heating in a regeneration ratio of 97%.
