Abstract: Carbon/pottery adsorptive composite was prepared by using sawdust dipped with zinc chloride as raw material and clay as binder. The effects of temperature and holding time on the adsorption capability of carbon/pottery composite were studied, and the pore structure was characterized. The results showed that the iodine adsorption value and methylene blue adsorption value of carbon/pottery composite rose at first and went down later with the increase of temperature and holding time. The sawdust formed activated carbon by activation and shrank,so the voids between the activated carbon and pottery were produced. This favored the development of pore structure of carbon/pottery composite.Under the optimal conditions of temperature 500℃ and holding time 1 h,the specific surface area, total pore volume, mesopore volume, micropore volume, the carbon content, iodine adsorption value and methylene blue adsorption value were 809.5 m2/g, 0.298 cm3/g, 0.185 cm3/g, 0.113 cm3/g, 60.7%, 680.5 mg/g and 165.0 mg/g,respectively.
