Abstract: In order to determine safrole content in the essential oil of Cinnamomum petrophilum N. Chao leaves rapidly, the capillary column gas chromatography with internal standard method was set up.The safrole contents of the essential oils were 92.9% to 94.3%.The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the detection method was less than 0.5%,and the detection time was 8 min.The method was rapid, accurate and precise.

Key words: Cinnamomum petrophilum N. Chao, essential oil, gas chromatography, internal standard method, safrole
